Events
The Bowness Parade is held in July, around the same time as the annual Calgary Stampede. It moves along Bowness Road, starting at Shouldice Bridge and ending at the local community centre. The procession begins at 9 am, although locals are ready with their lawn chairs well before the parade starts.
The event consists of acrobats, horses, cowboys and cowgirls, and music. The fun bit is that every vehicle or float tosses candy to the crowd and kids hustle to collect as many as they can. The parade turned 30 in 2019 and did not take place in 2020 owing to COVID-19 restrictions. That year a group of moms in the neighbourhood led a holiday procession through the neighbourhood with social distancing in place.
Other events in Bowness include the Tour de Bowness bike race and street festival, Halloween on Mainstreet, and Bowness Auto Parts Show and Shine. The events play an important role in reinforcing the community spirit and enlivening the atmosphere.
