Cricket Club Real Estate Overview
Surrounding communities might be of interest as well:
The first home to come up in what is known as Cricket Club today belonged to Andrew McGlashan, a Scotsman who came here with his family in the 1800s. McGlashan had a tannery on the corner of the Yonge Street and York Mills Road, and the unit was operational until sometime in the 1860s. In 1876, this family home was purchased by Andrew Bathgate, and later still, it passed into the hands of William George Gooderham, who owned the Gooderham and Worts distillery. When he discovered a freshwater spring on the hillside in his property he set up the Mineral Springs Ltd.
Gooderham was a significant figure in these parts mainly because he contributed a lot to the residential subdivision here in the first half of the 1900s. The Toronto Cricket Skating and Curling Club was also his brainchild. This club opened doors to the public in 1925 and continues to be a landmark.
The main appeal of Cricket Club is its charming, countryside vibe that is enhanced by the presence of the mature trees lining the streets, adding a green canopy to the neighbourhood. Distinctively enough, there are quite a few streets here that do not have sidewalks, and that’s an unusual feature of Cricket Club that its residents love to talk about.
With all the amenities that you could want within reach, the neighbourhood holds great appeal for those looking to buy a home in a location with conveniences. There is great shopping within easy access, well-reputed schools, amazing connectivity via public transport and friendly neighbours to add to the appeal that Cricket Club holds.
Who Lives in Cricket Club Homes
Cricket Club attracts families with young children, and you will see this reflected in the demographic profile of the neighbourhood very clearly. There isn’t much in terms of cultural diversity in this neighbourhood, although the neighbourhood is very welcoming of people from other ethnic backgrounds.
Cricket Club Homes Are Perfect For
If you have school-age children, then Cricket Club is one of the places that should be on the top of your communities- to- consider. The same goes for young couples hoping to start a family soon. The main reason for this is easy access to some of the most well-regarded schools in the Toronto area.
Cricket Club is also ideal for those who love being in the middle of the buzz. The vibrant shopping options located well within reach make Cricket Club a perfect place for you if you are a shopaholic.
Cricket Club Homes Are Not So Perfect For
The neighbourhood may have a quaint, laid back visual appeal, but if you are looking for a quiet, calm location, then you may be disappointed here. There is no doubt that Cricket Club is a vibrant community that is buzzing with activity all year around.
Life And Style, Amenities And Things To Do In Cricket Club
Cricket Club has a fairly young population and the many amenities, shopping and recreation options only serve to make this location an ideal one for the residents. The efficient public transport connectivity is one great reason for young professionals to buy a home here even if they have to get into downtown every day for work. The many bus routes running through the neighbourhood make this an easy task. To get to other parts of Toronto via the rail, you head to the York Mills Station and access the Yonge-University-Spadina Subway line. The station is located towards the North-East corner of Cricket Club.
The Armour Heights Public School and Lawrence Park Collegiate draw many people with their impressive reputations as educational institutions of excellence. You also have the John Wanless Junior Public School, the St. Margaret Catholic Elementary School and Loretto Abbey Catholic Secondary School. Cricket Club is also home to the Dunblaine Private School for children with learning disabilities.
The best of the shopping here is located along Yonge Street and on Avenue Road. These two streets can be called the heart of the neighbourhood. They are the busiest portions of Cricket Club with a plethora of stores, restaurants, and offices located in the compact two-storey buildings that line both streets. Head down to this part of the neighbourhood, and you will find fashion, home décor, salons, kid’s toys and clothing stores, art shops, baked goods, eateries and everything else under the sun.
When it comes to eating out in Cricket Club, you have an amazing range of options to choose from. Butter Avenue is your go-to place if you have a sweet tooth and particular fondness for pastries. Japanese cuisine fans will love Shinobu Sushi. There are also good places for sampling French cuisine. Avenue Road and Yonge Street are known as Toronto’s best shopping spots, and they live up to the reputation, for sure.
Fitness enthusiasts can’t complain about the options they have in Cricket Club either. The Toronto Cricket Skating and Curling Club is still in operation here and is one of the premier private clubs in the city with a very impressive membership and many recreation options.
The Don Valley Golf course makes it easy for fans of this game to enjoy a leisurely tee off at the 9-hole and 18-hole course they have. The scenic views that you have here make a golfing session a truly relaxing pastime. At the Armour Heights Community Centre, you have classes and fitness programs for all ages. The library that they operate is located in the Community Centre premises.
Cricket Club Real Estate Market
The plethora of Tudor and cottage-style homes for sale lend a distinctive appearance to Cricket Club. The Georgian style homes are big draws with their perfectly manicured lawns and large hall designs. Apart from the sprawling homes set in generous lots, you will also find quite a few two- or three-bedroom homes and two-storey houses. The most attractive feature of Cricket Club homes is the private drives that most of them boast of. Add to this, the large lots, and you get the impression of living in a palatial bungalow surrounded by nothing but woods when you invest in a home here.
A good majority of homes here date back to the period between 1920 and 1950, and the design reflects the popular style from that era. The large bay windows that offer a beautiful view of the scenic surroundings, the polished hardwood floors, charming fireplaces, and wood trim all give the aura of genteel luxury. If you are looking for a home for sale that has a high end feel but still fits within your budget, Cricket Club is a good place to start your search.
