Fairview houses date back to the ‘50s and ‘60s and with mid-20th century design. Many of the older single-family homes are still occupied by the original owners.

Most of the houses here are detached, single-family houses, with a few affordable condominiums and apartments along Heritage Drive and Flint Road. You will also come across some townhouses as well. The houses are solid construction and have spacious yards perfect for new or growing families. Fairview has a small residential community in the western portion while the eastern area is an industrial park. Fairview contains two public schools, one of which offers French immersion. Recreational Facilities in the area consist of the Fairview Arena, the Fairview Community Association. Major Transportation routes include Blackfoot Trail, Macleod Trail, Heritage Drive. The Ctrain runs parralel to Macleod Trail and the closest station lies at the corner of Heritage Drive and Macleod.

Lakes —

Glenmore Reservoir is the closest body of water and a 15-minute drive from the community. This is a gorgeous area with various summer activities like hiking, jogging, picnicking, golfing, and canoeing.

Golfuture YYC is an excellent par three golf course on 15 Street SE. Maple Ridge Golf Course.

Fairview Park is the community’s largest park and boasts of a playground, three sports fields, a basketball court, ball diamond, rink, arena, multi-use pad, and a community hall.

Shopping —

Residents enjoy shopping at Chinook Centre Mall, on Macleod Trail, less than 1.5 km from the community. Chinook Centre Mall is one of Calgary’s sophisticated shopping malls with well-known chains, high-end department stores, and cinemas.

Another well-known mall in the area is Southcentre Mall – one of Calgary’s largest shopping malls with over 200 stores and services. The mall is about 3 km from Fairview.

Deerfoot Meadows Mall is one of Calgary’s most prominent outdoor malls with 321,000 square feet of space holding over 50 retailers, factory outlets, megastores, and popular chains. The mall is located just off Deerfoot Trail.

Walmart, IKEA, and Costco are all a few minutes drive outside the community.

1. What is crime like in the neighbourhood? Will I feel safe here?

   Of late, the crime rate in Fairview has been low and continues to decrease. There were only three crimes reported in September 2021 as opposed to 25 crimes reported in September 2020. Violent crimes are rare, and most of the crimes are property theft and vandalism.

   District 6 police facility is within the community and gives the residents a lot of peace.

   Fire station 11 is less than 2.5 km away, on 4 Street SW.

2. Are there alternative grocery shops like farmers’ markets, community gardens, etc.?

   The Calgary Farmer’s Market is outside the community, on 77 Avenue SE. It is an old-school indoor market with over 75 vendors who sell local produce, crafts, flowers, and more.

   Fairview Community Garden, endorsed by the Fairview Community Association, hosts a wide range of activities throughout the year. If you are an enthusiastic gardener – experienced or not, you will be welcomed into the Community Garden.

3. Which is the nearest hospital?

   Rockyview General Hospital, which treats over 220,000 people every year, is the closest hospital to Fairview (approximately 2 km away). The hospital boasts of the latest amenities and is home to Canada’s best Urology department. Rockyview has multiple specialty clinics, a 24-hour emergency ward, critical care, outpatient care, and fantastic doctors.

4. How do I go about in the community?

   Fairview is the 53rd most walkable neighbourhood in Calgary. Some errands can be accomplished on foot. The area has excellent bike infrastructure, which makes it a bikeable community.

   For those who must rely on public transport, the neighbourhood has good public transportation. Heritage CTrain Station is about half a kilometer from the center of the community. Chinook CTrain Station is less than a kilometer away.

5. What are the amenities like here?

   The Fairview Community Association is very active and hosts a wide variety of events throughout the year to get residents involved with the community.

   Sports enthusiasts have plenty of choices when it comes to sports and recreational facilities. The community has permanent recreational facilities, ball diamonds, sports fields, family-friendly parks, and walkways.
