Demographics

Oakridge was annexed by the City of Calgary in 1956, after formerly being under the authority of the Rocky View Municipal District. In 1968, it was formally designated as a neighbourhood.

The Oakridge Community Association was founded on November 12, 1970, and the Community Centre was completed in 1972 on five acres of city-owned land.

Oakridge had a population of 5,690 people living in 2,291 homes in the 2019 municipal census, up -1.2% from its 2011 population of 5,719. In 2012, it had a population density of 2,371/km2 on a land area of 2.4 km2.

In 2000, the typical household income in this neighbourhood was $72,674, and 6.9% of households were considered low-income.

Immigrants made up 21.3% of the population in 2000. Condominiums or flats accounted for 1.8% of the structures, while 8.4% of the housing was rented.

According to data from the City of Calgary from 2014, 88 %of properties in Oakridge are occupied by their owners. And single-family homes account for 75% of all housing.

The community's median age is 46, with three persons per census family on average and an equal gender split of 50% male and female.

16% of Oakridge residents are over the age of 65, compared to 10% for the rest of the city.
