Residents of Parkland have easy access to Fish Creek Park via a 20meter wide strip that connects the community with the park.

Over 90% of the dwellings in Parkland are single-detached houses. About 5% of the homes are apartments with less than five stories. Row houses and semi-detached houses or duplexes are also available but are not very common in this neighbourhood. A lot of greenery and trees surround the houses here. Lakes —

Lake Sikome in Fish Creek Park is open to the public and the residents of Parkland. The lake’s beaches are lovely picnic spots in the summer. The lake is only about 7 feet at its deepest, so it’s warmer than most lakes. There are three playgrounds around the lake, washrooms, showers, change rooms, a beach shop, and picnic tables.

Golf —

Maple Ridge Men’s Golf Club is a five-minute drive (approximately 3 kilometers) from Parkland.

For both men and women, Maple Ridge Golf Course is about five kilometers from Parkland.

Both golf courses offer excellent courses that are designed to test and improve your golf skills.

Parks —

Fish Creek Park is the major attraction in the area and immediately outside the neighbourhood with many activities for the entire family. There are excellent walking and biking trails, and Sikome Lake within the park is a fun picnic spot during the summers. Residents of the community are involved in the preservation of the park’s wildlife.

The community’s young children have excellent playgrounds at the Parkglen Road SE Playground and the Deerpath Road SE Playground.

Parkland Community Centre Ltd., which is affectionately called Park96, is a 22-acre private park owned by Parkland’s property owners and open only to the residents of Parkland. The park has skating rinks, disc golf, tennis courts, and a fantastic playground – a great place for residents to hang out. The park hosts events like the Summerfest, Autmnfest, Sports Swap, Plant Exchange, and Summer Sundays.

For dogs, there is the Parkland Boulevard SE Off-Leash Area. Owners can get their dogs off their leashes, so they can enjoy a run with their dog friends.

Shopping —

For those who like the mall experience, Deep Valley Market Place on Canyon Meadows Drive SE is a one-stop shop for your everyday needs.

Avenida Village Shopping Centre is about four kilometers (a six to seven-minute drive) from Parkland and offers quality products and fantastic food at the food hall.

Demographics

According to the 2016 Census of Canada profile published in 2019, 3,755 people lived in private households in Parkland that year. The largest population is 15 to 64-year-olds, and the second-largest population is seniors over 65. Children 0 to 14 make up about 15% of the population.

There are about 1,500 private households in Parkland, and the average size of each household is 2.6. Most families are couple families without children at home. A whopping 98% of the community comprises Canadian citizens, and about 2% is made up of non-Canadian citizens.

Developer/builder/history

The land on which Parkland stands today was annexed to the city of Calgary in 1961. The development of the community began in 1974. The community was built by several builders and Keith Construction, one of the most prominent developers. Today, the community of Parkland is represented by the Ward 14 councillor in the Calgary City Council.

The closest LRTs are Fish Creek – Lacombe CTrain Station, Shawnessy CTrain Station, and Canyon Meadows CTrain Station, which are less than two kilometers from the neighbourhood.
