Annexed in 1910 as Sarcee Park, Rutland Park was established in 1952. Rutland Park is located North of Mount Royal University and west of Crowchild Trail. Rutland Park is named after Rutland county in England and is an ideal place for its close proximity to Marda Loop Business Revitalization Zone and Downtown, as well as North Glenmore Park and Weaselhead.

Parks —

Rutland Park Playground and Sarcee Meadows Playground are well-maintained playgrounds for toddlers and young children within Rutland Park. The parks are fitted with excellent playground equipment for your young ones.

Rutland Park Community Association has a playground for children, sports fields and a rink for the rest of the family.

City of Calgary Toboggan Hill - Richmond Green is a safe hill for children to toboggan down.

Glamorgan Off-Leash Area is a large area for your dogs to run around and get some exercise off their leashes. The site lies west of the neighbourhood, on the other side of 37 Street SW.

As well as the parks within the community, Rutland Park is close to Weaselhead Flats – 585 acres of parkland at the mouth of the Elbow River and North Glenmore Park. The park has some excellent pathways created for pleasant hikes. The Calliope Hummingbird – the smallest bird in Canada, is known to live here.

North Glenmore Park is a 208-acre waterfront park with playgrounds, trails, tennis courts, picnic spots, BBQ and fire pits, and more. The park is an excellent area to spend a day with the family.

Sarcee Plaza at the southern end of the community is the place to head for all your shopping requirements. The plaza boasts a great selection of businesses in one place. You can find many retail stores and restaurants here, and you can always be sure to get a parking lot.

According to the 2016 Census of Canada, over 2,000 people resided in Rutland Park that year in a little less than 1,000 private households. The community has quite a significant population (approximately 20%) of immigrants, most of whom are from Europe. There is also a considerable population (about 20%) of seniors and retired people. Owners occupy over 40% of the dwellings, and the rest are rented out.

Housing

About 50% of the dwellings in Rutland Park were built between 1961 and 1980, so houses here belong to various periods and styles. Houses are mainly townhouses and single-detached homes, and there are a few apartments with less than five storeys. Rutland homes are spacious, well maintained, and older homes have been refurbished to accommodate the latest fittings.
