Summerhill Real Estate Overview

Surrounding communities might be of interest as well:

The community was named after the property of Charles Thompson. This sprawling 200-acre estate was bounded by Yonge Street and Pleasant road. It was here that he established the amusement park known as the 'Summer Hill Park and Pleasure Grounds.' In the 1900s, the community underwent gentrification, and more and more people started moving in. The Summer Hill estate, which was atop a small hill, has since been converted into the Summerhill gardens.

Today, Summerhill is one of Toronto's most well-rounded neighbourhoods. There has been a recent influx of people in the area owing to its serene beauty and turn of the century houses.

Those who commute for work will love living close to Yonge Street, providing a direct route to the city center. Yonge Street is lined with entertainment venues and restaurants, providing plenty of choices for a night out on the town.

In the early 1900s, there existed a train station known as the North Toronto station. In 1929, it was replaced by the Union station. In 2003, the station, with all its distinctive features and grand architecture, was reconstructed into one of the largest liquor stores in Canada.

Summer Hill Homes Are Perfect For

People who often travel for work and leisure alike will find that commuting is a breeze in this community owing to its proximity to the Rosedale Subway station. The North Toronto station is sure to pique the interest of train and history enthusiasts alike. Summerhill Homes Are Not So Perfect For

If you want to surround yourself with a diverse ethnic group, gain exposure to various cultures, this might not be the ideal for you. The community is at a considerable distance from the nearest shopping complex, which might be an inconvenience to shopaholics. The area has several convenience stores to chose from. Residents have plenty of amenities such as shops and fine restaurants in Summerhill.

Life And Style, Amenities And Things To Do In Summerhill

Summerhill is a community suitable for people from all walks of life. Those who covet knowledge can visit one of the museums or historical sites such as the Spadina museum, the North Toronto Station, or the Summer hill coach house. The Spadina Museum is truly a masterpiece of architecture. It reflects the styles of architecture in the late 19th and early 20th century, featuring Victorian, Edwardian, Art Deco and the 'Colonial revival' styles.

The North Toronto Station is a resurrected monument of sorts. The Liquor Control Board of Toronto reconstructed it. Although it serves primarily as a liquor store, freight trains can still run through it. Another novel feature of the station is that its floor has vulcanized rubber in it, lending the site a unique look and feel.

The area also has a wide array of schools and educational institutions for parents to choose from. There is the Cottingham public school and the De La Salle College, to name a few.
