It is located in Calgary's west zone, with Bow Trail to the north, 45 Street to the east, 17 Avenue to the south, and Sarcee Trail to the west. It shares a great bond with the neighbouring Rosscarrock community. Both the Westgate and Rosscarrock communities also enjoy various natural retreats including the Edworthy Park, Glendale Meadows, and the Bow River Valley. The communities also share many sports spaces and activities at their respective community centres.

It is one of Calgary's most diverse neighbourhoods, with a variety of age groups, family structures, and economic backgrounds. Westgate homeowners represent Calgary's recent influx of immigrants and urbanisation. The majority of the housing units are single-family houses, which appeal to young families that want to be close to retail, dining, and other services. For this reason, it’s an ideal community for families that want to be close to all the urban amenities and transportation routes.
