Cricket Club Real Estate Overview
Surrounding communities might be of interest as well:
The first home to come up in what is known as Cricket Club today belonged to Andrew McGlashan, a Scotsman who came here with his family in the 1800s. McGlashan had a tannery on the corner of the Yonge Street and York Mills Road, and the unit was operational until sometime in the 1860s. In 1876, this family home was purchased by Andrew Bathgate, and later still, it passed into the hands of William George Gooderham, who owned the Gooderham and Worts distillery. When he discovered a freshwater spring on the hillside in his property he set up the Mineral Springs Ltd.
Gooderham was a significant figure in these parts mainly because he contributed a lot to the residential subdivision here in the first half of the 1900s. The Toronto Cricket Skating and Curling Club was also his brainchild. This club opened doors to the public in 1925 and continues to be a landmark.
The main appeal of Cricket Club is its charming, countryside vibe that is enhanced by the presence of the mature trees lining the streets, adding a green canopy to the neighbourhood. Distinctively enough, there are quite a few streets here that do not have sidewalks, and that’s an unusual feature of Cricket Club that its residents love to talk about.
With all the amenities that you could want within reach, the neighbourhood holds great appeal for those looking to buy a home in a location with conveniences. There is great shopping within easy access, well-reputed schools, amazing connectivity via public transport and friendly neighbours to add to the appeal that Cricket Club holds.
