Glenbrook's territory was partially annexed to the City of Calgary in 1954 and partially in 1956. Glenbrook was then formally established in 1958. The Ward 6 councillor represents it on the Calgary City Council.
The community association of Glenbrook was established on October 31, 1960, following the construction of most of the housing in the area.
In 2000, the typical household income in this neighbourhood was $42,845, and 23.3% of the families were considered low-income.
Immigrants accounted for 20.5% of the population in 2000. Condominiums or flats made up 35.6% of the construction, while 46.1% of the housing was rented. The remaining homes were occupied by their owners. Currently, 59% of the homes are occupied by their owners and 41% of the housing is rented.
The community's median age is 36.4 years, with an average of 2.5 persons per family and an almost equal gender ratio of 50% male and female residents.
