Lakeview was formed during a time when Calgary was starting on a major urbanisation project that would influence the city's layout. In 1956, the city annexed the Lakeview housing area, and construction began six years later, in 1962.
Lakeview was named after the view of Glenmore Reservoir that its position provides. Engineered Homes Ltd. of Calgary built many of the earliest houses in the area. Ward 11 councillor represents the neighbourhood on the Calgary City Council.
In 2000, inhabitants in this neighbourhood had a median household income of $64,535, and 5.2% of the families were considered low-income. Nearly 17% of the housing is rented while the remaining properties are occupied by their owners.
The community's median age is 43.9 years, with an average of 3 persons per family and an almost equal gender ratio of 50% male and female residents. About 19% of the residents here are over the age of 65, compared to 10% for the rest of Calgary.

Many people bought houses in Lakeview Village to get away from the chaos and bustle of city life and live in a more serene environment.
