Mount Royal University has a campus in Lincoln Park. Over 14,000 students attend the university, which offers 12 degree programs and 36 majors. The Mount Royal Cougars are the men's and women's athletic teams representing the university in Calgary. They comprise eight varsity teams with four men's teams and four women's teams that compete in the Canada West Universities Athletic Association.
Mount Royal University Aquatic & Recreation Centre offers memberships for the public and facility passes. It houses an Aquatic Centre featuring a 25 m x 25 m salt water pool with six lanes and an open dive tank area for a variety of activities. The centre also has a fitness/weight room, track, climbing wall, community centre, tennis courts, volleyball courts and two gyms.
Students have opportunities to participate in a number of recreational programs, from rock-climbing and swim lessons to sports clubs. Cougars Athletics and Recreation (CAR) sports clubs are student-led clubs that welcome all skill levels. They are a great way to socialize, build leadership skills and enhance sporting skill.
The university has facilities to offer various sports such as basketball, wheelchair basketball, boccia, dodgeball, ice-hockey, futsal, pickleball and volleyball. As part of their recreational programs, the university also offers personal training, group training and first aid & CPR certifications. Red Cross CPR courses are suitable for the workplace or general interest. Red Cross Standard First Aid is intended for those who require this skill for work purposes or those who wish to respond in home emergency situations. Basic Life Support course is geared towards in-facility care providers.
