Mission's history developed in 1883 when it was homesteaded by Fathers Lacombe and Leduc. The area built as a Francophone community named Rouleauville after two brothers: Edourd and Chief Justice Charles B. Rouleau, founders of the Holy Cross Hospital. An Irish bishop's arrival began to shift the French speaking community until its name was changed to Mission after it was annexed to Calgary in 1907.
