The area was a large bustling agricultural community until 1956, after the last dairy farm was sold to real estate developers.

The area between Royal York Road and Islington Avenue is sometimes referred to as "Royal York Gardens," and the area between Islington Avenue and Kipling Avenue is referred to as "Richmond Gardens." The two pockets are a part of the greater Richview community. Richview also encompasses the former post office 'Richview,' which was merged into the then borough of Etobicoke. The neighbourhood Richview is named after the post office, which opened in 1852.

The area provides excellent transportation service. The neighbourhood is accessible by 52 Lawrence Ave West, 73 (A, B & C) Royal York TTC buses. The TTC busses connect to subway stops on the Yonge line as well as the Danforth subway line. As for motorists, there are three main highways, namely Highway 401, Highway 427, and Highway 409, that are easily accessible. The neighbourhood also has a library, The Richview Public Library, that the residents of the community can visit.

There are no super trendy restaurants in the neighbourhood or haute couture outlets. Residents mostly visit nearby communities for a fancy dinner or trendy shopping. But this lack of restaurants and shopping complexes does not pose as a disadvantage, as other areas of the city are easy to reach.
