The Silverthorn neighbourhood is named after 'Aaron Silverthorn,' who settled here with his wife and sons in 1825. Aaron's son Francis who inherited the property, turned it into a cattle farm. It was only in 1914 that Silverthorn farm was opened for residential development.

Silverthorn is a neighbourhood filled with affordable homes bounded by Comay Road on the North, Black Creek Drive on the West, Rogers Road on the South, and the CP Railway on the East. Keelesdale, the area west of Black Creek Drive, can be considered a separate neighbourhood and the city breaks this region into Keelesdale-Eglinton West and Beechborough-Greenbrook.
