West Springs was founded in 2001 when the land, which was formerly part of the Municipal District of Rocky View's East Springbank region, was annexed to the City of Calgary in 1995. Wentworth is the western extension of the neighbourhood, west of 85th Street SW and stretching into the aspen parkland.
West Springs had an estimated population of 8,228 people living in 2,795 homes in the 2012 municipal census, up 4.8% from its 2011 population of 7,849.
In 2000, the typical household income in this neighbourhood was $88,328, and 9.8% of the households were considered low-income.
Immigrants made up 28.2% of the population in 2000. Only 5.9% of the housing was rented, and all of the buildings were single-family detached residences. The remaining homes were occupied by their owners.
