WEST WOODBRIDGE HOMES FOR SALE IN VAUGHAN
West Woodbridge Real Estate Overview
Surrounding communities might be of interest as well:
Lying to the north of Toronto, this neighbourhood became part of the city in 1971. Until then, it was an independent town. At amalgamation time, Woodbridge unified with nearby communities. Today believed to be one of the most beautiful areas in these parts; West Woodbridge is a suburban oasis.
The neighbourhood was not always called Woodbridge. Its original name was Burwick, named so after Rowland Burr, who came to these parts in the year 1835. There was another location in Wester Canada called Burrwick and this caused confusion once mail delivery began to these parts. It was then that the name was changed. The neighbourhood's current name first began to be used in 1855, and it was chosen owing to a wooden bridge over the Humber River that marked the entryway into the town. The bridge was located at the spot where you find Islington Avenue and Langstaff Road today since the bridge was an essential landmark in those days, naming the neighbourhood after it was a good move.
The arrival of the railway ushered in many changes in Woodbridge and fast-tracked its growth as well. Grey and Bruce Railway firmly established Woodbridge on the map in 1870. At this point, these parts were primarily used for agricultural purposes. Agricultural equipment manufacturers, grain and flour mills by Humber River ensured the growth of the community here and in 1882, it was finally incorporated as a Village.
After a brief decline, Woodbridge saw a revival phase in 1908, once more, thanks to the railway. The Canadian Pacific Railway ran a line through the neighbourhood, and a few years later, the Toronto Suburban Railway Company extended its line to include the village. In 1930, the construction of Highway 7 boosted Woodbridge's fortunes even further.
Today, with a buzzing commercial heart in Market Lane Shopping Centre, the old world charm intact and a plethora of beautiful homes for sale, West Woodbridge is a perfect spot to start your search at if you are looking for your dream home.
