North of the 401 lies several strip malls and plazas, which are predominantly one-stop shops that provide residents with good retail therapy. And the neighbourhood's eateries that serve everything from Italian, Indian, Turkish and Mediterranean to Japanese, Russian, Afghani and Caribbean delights. Popular restaurants in the area include La Risa, Home Sweet Home, Taj Restaurant, Genji Sushi, Bamiyan Kabob, and Chicken Place, to name just a few.

Thanks to the many ravines and parks in the area like Derrydowns, Black Creek Parklands, G. Ross Lord, Northwood, and Grandvine and TopCliff Parks, residents enjoy walking, biking, jogging and hiking along the scenic trails. Schools abound in the neighbourhood as well, making it a strong draw for families. From St. Wilfrid Elementary, St. Jerom Elementary, Derrydown Public School, Elia Middle School and James Cardinal McGuigan Secondary to Stilecroft Public School, Lamberton Public School, Africenri Alternative School and of course York University's Keele Campus, there is a plethora of great educational establishments. With fifteen public and separate board elementary schools in the area, parents and kids have plenty of options.
