In 1998, the city of Etobicoke amalgamated with six other cities to form the GTA (Greater Toronto Area). Over the years, gradual development has slowly transformed the community of Alderwood. And today, the well-laid-out neighborhood consists mainly of low-rise single-family homes, a good sprinkling of parks, shops, and restaurant and well-established schools and a thriving community center.

While the neighborhood is bordered on the west and east by Etoboike Creek and the CPR Railway, the Gardiner Expressway and the CNR Railway flank the area on the north and south giving residents a good range of transit options. The southeast side of Alderwood is designated for manufacturing and warehousing businesses, including the Daimler-Chrysler casting plant.

Plus, the Connorvale Park, which is a 5-hectare park that features a lit ball diamond, clubhouse, and a children's play area, is only three minutes away from Alderwood. The Franklin Horner Community Centre, which has been serving residents of Alderwood and neighboring communities for over 30 years, provides an array of recreational, sporting, educational and leisure activities. For parents interested in a Catholic education system, the St Ambrose Catholic Elementary School has classes up to Grade 8. Students heading to highschool typically join Father John Redmond Catholic Secondary School, which is situated only seven minutes from Alderwood via Horner and Kipling Avenue.
