Demographics
The 2016 Census of Calgary shows that the community consisted of 5,180 individuals living in 3,170 dwellings in Bankview that year. The community has a large population (86%) of 15 to 64-year-olds and many children and senior citizens. English and French are the two most common languages spoken here, and some families speak Spanish, German, Arabic, Amharic, and Russian. Almost 90% of the population are Canadian citizens, while the rest are non-Canadian citizens.
Housing
Most of the Bankview’s houses were built between 1961 and 1980, although many houses date back to 1960 or before. While the houses in the community are mainly single detached family homes, about two-thirds of the neighbourhood is made up of apartments.
Developer/builder/history
Bankview’s history dates back to 1882. William Nimmons purchased the land the neighbourhood stands on, along with other lands, from the Hudson’s Bay Company. The land was bought for farming and ranching. The Nimmons’ family residence is a heritage building today. Bankview itself was established as a Calgary neighbourhood in 1908, and the community witnessed a significant redesign of the neighbourhood in 1950.

Several grocery and convenience stores dot the neighbourhood. Urban Fare on 17th Avenue is a large, well-stocked grocery, pharmacy, and convenience store a couple of minutes away from the community.
