Collingwood was founded in 1959 after the area was annexed by the City of Calgary in 1910.
The community had a populace of 2,222 people living in 978 homes in the 2012 municipal census, down -0.4% from its 2011 census of 2,231. In 2012, it had a total population of 1,390/km2 (3,600/sq. mi) on a total land of 1.6 km2 (0.62 sq. mi).
