Rosedale Real Estate Overview

Surrounding communities might be of interest as well:

Rosedale is a residential neighbourhood in Toronto that was formerly the estate site of William Botsford Jarvis. The entire estate underwent a subdivision in 1854 and became the first "garden suburb" of Toronto. The Jarvis Family sold their Rosedale homestead a decade later, which then paved the way for residential developments to take place in the area, including a project to extend Cluny Drive.

However, an exciting piece of the neighbourhood's past is that it was the site of the fourth Government House in Ontario. This property was called Chorley Park, and it was constructed for the Lieutenant Governor in 1915. In 1960, however, it was broken down by the Toronto city officials to save money. Currently, this site is a public park, bearing the same name.

Rosedale is located just north of downtown Toronto and is considered one of the oldest suburbs in the city. It is also one of the most highly-priced neighbourhoods in the country. Thanks to its incredible homes and convenient facilities, Rosedale is ranked as one of the best communities in Toronto to live.

Who Lives in Rosedale Homes

Rosedale is often dubbed as the area where Toronto's 'old money' lives. The neighbourhood is home to some of the most famous Canadian personalities. Gerry Schwartz, the owner and founder of Onex Corporation, and Ken Thomson of Thomson Corporation have both called this community home.

Rosedale Homes Are Perfect For

The neighbourhood is an ideal destination for the young, hip generation desirous of being surrounded by other influential people. At the same time, the plentiful green spaces welcome people who like their homes close to nature.

Rosedale Homes Are Not So Perfect For

The neighbourhood isn't the perfect option for people with average income as prices of real estate can be extremely high here. For those homebuyers who are used to the hustle-bustle of downtown Toronto, they may find Rosedale too quiet for them.

Life And Style, Amenities And Things To Do In Rosedale

Life in Rosedale is pretty vibrant and fast-paced, primarily owing to the numerous commercial amenities and the young crowd of the neighbourhood. The streets of the neighbourhood's commercial districts showcase upscale, trendy shopping boutiques storing some of the best products in town. Residents of Rosedale who frequent these well-decorated places are usually the best-dressed in the city. The neighbourhood's most well-off residents may be executives, professionals and celebrities of the upper strata of Toronto's society.

Yonge is the busiest area of the neighbourhood, but Summerhill, located to the neighbourhood's north end, is home to some great retail outlets, pubs and restaurants as well. Rebel House Pub, Black Camel, and All the Best Fine Foods are all found in this community. For coffee, residents love going to Caffe Doria, and L'Atelier is among the top destinations for home décor.

Residents often go to one of several green parks located in Rosedale. The best one is Rosedale Park, which has about eight tennis courts, an artificial skating rink and a wading pool for children. Moore Park has many pathways and trails to allow residents to walk, run or cycle.

The crowd in Rosedale is also culturally-rich and fun-loving. Rosedale Park organizes the annual spring park fest called Mayfair. This community event brings together fun-filled games, rides, open flea markets and other such carnival-type activities. Traditionally, the event is funded by Mooredale House and held on the first Saturday in May.

Families with kids enjoy two respected schools: Rosedale Junior Public School and Rosedale Heights School of the Arts for high-school students. Branksome Hall, The York School, Gradale Academy, and Whitney Junior Public School are few other schools available to kids residing in the Rosedale neighbourhood.
