Lawrey Gardens Park is an off-leash area and offers a great loop for walking. With the Bow River to the north and Douglas Fir Forest to the south, the park is a peaceful getaway for residents and also offers bird-watching opportunities.

Wildflower Arts Centre and Park is literally at your doorstep. The arts centre is just what you need to try pottery or express yourself through dance and fine arts. It offers school arts programs for students of all ages and custom programs for groups and kids' birthday parties. The centre's recreational services include a playground, community centre, craft room, gallery and three basketball courts. It also hosts an annual Greek festival.

If you're more into lawn bowling than golf, you'll be living in a community close to two of the best greens in Canada, at the Calgary Lawn Bowling Club. The non-profit club has a world-class facility for lawn bowling and caters to enthusiasts of all ages and abilities. It organizes several events throughout the calendar year, including social bowls, weekend jitneys, 2-4-2 league, junior programs and other social and competitive playing events.

Douglas Fir Trail and Quarry Trail and Bow River Pathway Loop are popular spots for hiking, jogging, walking and snowshoeing. The former is a 4.3 kilometre back trail accessible all year round and offering a slew of activity options. It is open to dogs but they must be kept on a leash. The trail is scenic and a bit challenging, offering stairs, bridges, lots of shade and nice viewpoints. It is particularly favoured by beginners and can get busy in the evenings and on weekends. The trail looks especially beautiful during the fall when the changing colours of foliage are a sight to behold.

Quarry Trail and Bow River Pathway is a 15.4-kilometre loop used mainly for walking and running. The trail offers scenic views of the landscape, excellent tree coverage and three bridges to help you in your endeavour. It is rated as moderate but does see bikers and a bit of traffic.

Come winter, you have the chance to experience the season's oldest sport - cross-country skiing at the Shaganappi Point Golf Course. Residents relish this experience under the city's sunny blue skies.
