Wychwood Real Estate Overview

Surrounding communities might be of interest as well:

Flanked by St. Clair West and Dupont Street in the north and south, the plush residential area is bordered by Bathurst, and Oakwood Avenue on it's east and west boundaries, respectively. The streetcar on St. Clair Avenue and the bus service on Davenport Road ferry passengers to the Dupont station on the Yonge-University-Spadina subway line and the Bathurst bus connects residents with its namesake station on the Bloor-Danforth subway line. So there are plenty of alternative transit solutions.

While the residences in Wychwood enjoy unique and historically significant architecture, the area also has the distinction of being one of Toronto's earliest planned communities as well. Peaceful and beautiful with a sense of pride and achievement, the exclusive neighbourhood is an oasis of serenity while restaurants, schools, and excellent recreational options are within close reach.

Who Lives In Wychwood Homes

Home to several well-known personalities like Libby Znaimer (journalist), Bonnie Brooks (president of the Hudson's Bay Company) and Gerald Owen (editorial writer of the Globe and Mail), Wychwood is exclusive in every sense of the word.

Residents appreciate the privacy, greenery, and the cozy community vibe this area affords them. The neighbourhood is filled with business owners, lawyers and career-driven individuals.

Wychwood Homes Are Perfect For

Wychwood is ideally suited to upwardly mobile families who want an uber-exclusive community that is within walking distance from many of the city's sites but at the same time, is a peaceful sanctuary nestled in the lap of nature's luxury.

For seniors, young couples, singles and anyone on the lookout to buy upscale real estate in a lush green, peaceful environment, this residential abode is hard to beat.

Wychwood Homes Are Not So Perfect For

Situated a little over 5 km away from the throbbing hub of the commercial downtown area, for those who work in the city and want shorter commutes to work, there are closer neighbourhoods that provide better options.

Plus, since the area features luxurious real estate options, the community isn't the best option for homeowners who are looking for more affordable price tags.

Life And Style, Amenities And Things To Do In Wychwood

With beautiful landscapes and expansive parklands, Wychwood also has a good sprinkling of dining shopping and recreational options, as well. Most notably, St. Clair Avenue West has a large number of shops, including fashion stores, high-end designer outlets, thrift shops, and various amenities.

While Bathurst Street, Vaughan and Davenport Roads have their fair share of convenience stores and services, Bloor Street is well known for its family businesses, upmarket boutiques, salons and spas, electronics and bookstores, banks and several grocers.

In addition, the neighbourhood also has an excellent array of restaurants, bakeries, cafés, and bars that cater to diverse palates. Popular haunts include El Rincon Mexicano, The Stockyards Smokehouse & Larder, Kibo Sushi, Salto Restaurant & Bar, Savera Indian Cusine, Mezzetta Restaurant & Tapas Bar and a whole lot more.

Since one of Toronto's ravines sliced through the community, the area was preserved as parkland. And cocooned in a densely wooded valley in the southern swath of the community is a park with Taddle Creek Pond at its nucleus. Today, the pond is home to goldfish, painted turtles and mallard ducks. During the winter, the pond converts to a lovely skating rink and a tennis court, which is so ensconced with lush greenery that it's hardly noticeable from the road above.

Wychwood Barns Park is a beautiful expansive green space that includes a sports field, a kiddies' playground, a beach volleyball court, a separate off-leash area for dogs, an ice rink and lovely picnic tables scattered throughout the park.

Also part of the park is Artscape Wychwood Barns, a vibrant community centre that hosts arts and cultural programmes, community theatre and environmental leadership workshops while it promotes urban agriculture and heritage preservation as well. The facility also forms the backdrop for one of the best farmers' markets in the city - the Stop Farmer's Market, which takes place here pretty much all year round.

Bathurst Street is home to both the Wychwood Public Library and the Hillcrest Community Centre, which are an easy walk away from the neighbourhood. The latter has an indoor pool, a gymnasium, a basketball court, a multipurpose room, and hosts programs and activities for people of all ages.

When it comes to schooling options, the community also has a good sprinkling of well-reputed educational institutions in and around the vicinity. Children in the area attend Vaughan Co-op Nursery School, McMurrich Junior Public School, St. Bruno Catholic School, Canada Music Academy, Hudson College and several other established schools. So there is an array of excellent schooling options for parents and kids to choose from.

Wyhwood Real Estate Market

Since the Wychwood Park neighbourhood was given an Ontario Heritage Conservation designation in 1985, all the homes for sale in the area are considered heritage properties. While a few houses were constructed in the late nineteenth century, a majority of the addresses were erected in phases between 1906 to 1935, and a few residences even came up in the early 1950s.

Arthur Edwin Whatmough, a prominent architect, born in the late nineteenth century, designed a lot of the area, including several homes that were constructed in the Arts and Crafts style (1860 – 1910). Some of the residences were designed by Eden Smith, another prolific architect who was the first president of the Architectural Eighteen Club in 1900. He resided in the community, and his signature traditional English architectural style with natural landscapes is very distinct.

Several of the homes for sale in Wychwood were built by architects and artists who resided in the community for many years, the facades of the residences have traditional influences while the interiors are sun-filled and contemporary.

With a serene backdrop that is second to none but only minutes away from the St. Clair West commercial area, where shopping and entertainment are aplenty, the Wychwood real estate market is a heavenly oasis that provides its residents with the best of both worlds.
