Brentwood first opened its doors in 1960. Brentwood noted a population of 6,059 people living in 2,595 homes in the 2012 municipal census, up 0.2% from its 2011 census of 6,049.

The community's median age is 36.1 years, while the median age for the rest of Calgary is 37.4 years. Brentwood has an average of 2.3 persons per family and an equal gender ratio of 50% male and female residents. 41% of the families here have kids as compared to 48% for the rest of Calgary.
