Residents of Woodlands have easy access to the neighbouring Fish Creek Park, which is over 50 years old and holds significant value for community members. The members of The Friends of Fish Creek, a society dedicated to conserving a truly naturalized urban park through community activities and awareness, often organize events that residents of Woodlands can participate in.

The Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club stretches the whole length of the Eastern side of Woodlands and is the perfect place for families to spend their leisure time. The Woodcreek Community Association was established in 1976 with only Woodlands as part of it. Woodbine was later incorporated in 1992.

In 2000, residents in this neighbourhood had a median household income of $71,234 and 14.2% of all households were considered low-income.

Immigrants made up 22.9% of the population in 2000. Condominiums or flats accounted for 11.6% of the structures. 24.9% of all housing was rented and the remaining was occupied by owners.

The community's median age is 41.7, with two to three persons per census family on average and a near-equal gender ratio of 50% male and female.

15% of Woodlands residents are over the age of 65, compared to 10% for the rest of Calgary.

The community of Woodlands was founded in 1976 and has many properties surrounded by green space. Most of the available housing in Woodlands dates from the 1960s to the 1980s, when the city's development boom peaked. The predominant housing types in this region are single detached homes and townhouses. The area is recognised for its large parks, open areas and abundant wildlife.
